International Kobudo Association
The International Kobudo Association is dedicated to the preservation
and instruction of Traditional Okinawan Kobudo (weapons arts) as passed
down from master teacher to master teacher. Shihan Rudy Crosswell, 9th
Dan, Hanshi has studied weapons over several decades (see bio) and is
the chief instructor for the IKA. Our association recognized the diverse
values found in all lines of traditional Kobudo and practices and
teaches a broad syllabus of Kata and technique drawn from many of them.
The list includes Taira, Matayoshi, Yamani, the Kenshin-ryu of Teruo
Hayashi and several village or family styles such as from Eiko Miyazato,
Ufuchiku and Nakaima.
One may study Kobudo regardless of the style of karate you practice.
Many schools are now adding weapons training to their curriculum.
Students are enjoying the dynamics of a new separate art to study and be
graded in. Your Kobudo grade should be separate from your karate grade
as it is a whole other art form just as sword or Aikido would be.
The International Kobudo Association is affiliated with and endorsed
by the International Seibukan Martial Arts Association of Kyoto, Japan,
Menjo (diplomas of rank) are therefore internationally certified.
A sample list of Kata that we teach and practice up through Go Dan
follows. You will see it is comprehensive and diverse.
If you have an interest in studying Okinawan Kobudo as a member of
our organization, we welcome your application. You may apply as an
individual or as a branch dojo. Please email us at: info@azbudokan.com
