Questions & Answers

What is a Budokan?

A Kan, in Japanese, is a building or structure and so a Budokan is the building where we study budo, the martial way.  In Draeger’s book volume III, “Modern Bujutsu and Budo”, he defines the purpose of study of budo as follows:

“Modern budo consists of various systems used as spiritual training and forms of physical exercise or education methods   of self-defense for individuals in daily life, athletics and recreational activity and sport.    All of these systems purport to improve and integrate man’s mental and physical energies in such a way as to bring him into harmony with the norms of a peace-seeking international society.”
